BELIEVE IT OR NOT, BUT COLORADO IS ALMOST DEAD LAST WHEN IT COMES TO RECYCLING.
Colorado's recycling rate is a mere 11%, when compared to the national average of 35%. Why? Single stream recycling is simply not working. Turns out glass is one of our biggest problems, with an estimated 700 million pounds sent to landfills every year.

THE 1 FOR 3 PROGRAM
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The purpose of EnviroHub's 1 For 3 Program is to help improve Colorado's recycling rates and cut back on landfill waste by focusing on the problem of glass in single stream recycling.
Unfortunately in Colorado only a small portion of recycled glass actually gets recycled. Why? Glass needs to be recycled separately from paper, plastic, and aluminum in order to be properly recovered. When these recyclables are collected all together in single stream recycling systems, it becomes extremely difficult to sort out glass from the other materials, especially when it breaks. Estimates show that every ONE POUND of glass recycled separately from single stream can help prevent up to 3 POUNDS of other recyclables from being landfilled: "1 FOR 3".
HOW IT WORKS
EnviroHub has partnered up with Clear Intentions, a local glass recycler and processor, to help place glass-only recycling stations throughout communities in Colorado. These Glass Stations give the public opportunities to recycle their glass separately from single stream, making sure it ends up 100% recycled, as it should.
The Partnership: EnviroHub acts as a sponsor for these glass stations, helping to make them free for communities. We also work to encourage the public to use these Glass Stations by providing education to communities on the importance of source separated recycling. Clear Intentions services the Glass Stations, hauling the glass back to their facility where it is processed and sent back to local manufacturers. In return for EnviroHub's support, Clear Intentions donates $1 to EnviroHub for every full glass station they collect. This serves as a great source of continuing revenue for our organization.
We have helped place and sponsor 14 Glass Stations throughout communities in Colorado.
POUNDS OF GLASS
We have helped recycle 185,077 pounds of glass, preventing it from ending up in landfills and contaminating other recyclables!
We have raised awareness about glass recycling at 30 different community events, educating thousands of Colorado residents.
