BELIEVE IT OR NOT, BUT COLORADO IS ALMOST DEAD LAST WHEN IT COMES TO RECYCLING.

We are actually sending 14 billion pounds of trash to landfills every year. This is because there is simply no access to source-separated recycling in many communities, so many of us must use outdated single-stream programs, or throw our recyclables in the trash.

LET'S TACKLE Landfill waste ONE STEP AT A TIME

starting with GLASS

An estimated 790 million pounds of glass is being thrown away into Colorado landfills every single year.

With the help of local Glass Recyclers, we're starting to change that.

THE 1 FOR 3 PROGRAM

FIND A GLASS STATION NEAR YOU

With a focus on the problem of glass in single-stream recycling, our "1 For 3" program is aimed at creating and promoting glass recycling opportunities for the State of Colorado. Through our program Colorado residents will be educated on the importance of source-separated recycling and encouraged to take action by utilizing glass-only drop off recycling stations in their area.

The objective of this program is to place these Glass Stations throughout schools and communities, providing easy access for glass recycling, reducing landfill waste, and helping to keep Colorado beautiful!

OUR GOAL

In 2017 we aim to place 60 Glass Stations and recycle over 500,000 pounds of glass.

HOW IT WORKS

EnviroHub has partnered up with Clear Intentions, a local glass recycler and processor, to make this program possible. While EnviroHub covers the placement fee for these glass stations, Clear Intentions services the stations, hauling the glass back to their facility to be processed and then sent back to local manufacturers.

Unlike single stream systems, the glass you deposit in these Glass Stations is 100% recycled, and its done right here in Colorado.

"1 FOR 3"

It's not just about the glass. We're saving other materials too.

For every POUND of glass we recycle separately from single-stream, up to 3 POUNDS of other recyclables will be prevented from being sent to the landfill

the problem: GLASS CONTAMINATEs

WHAT IS SINGLE-STREAM RECYCLING?

When mixing glass with other recyclables it starts to break into smaller and smaller pieces, becoming nearly impossible to separate out from the other materials on MRF sorting lines. These recyclables are therefore labeled as contaminated, and along with the broken glass, are sent straight to the landfill.

Estimates show that every POUND of glass in single stream contaminates up to THREE POUNDS of other recyclables.

Single-stream is a recycling system which lets users put different kinds of recyclables like paper, plastic, aluminum, and glass all together in one bin.

Once collected, these mixed materials are sent off to Material Recycling Facilities (or MRFs) where they are separated on a sorting line, and eventually shipped to manufacturers that turn them back into useable products.  Seems simple right?
